Odoxil Suspension 30ml

Odoxil Suspension 30ml is used for the following:

• Managing mild to moderate skin and soft tissue infections caused by staphylococci and streptococci

• Addressing throat and tonsil infections like pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes

• Controlling urinary tract infections caused by E. coli, P. mirabilis and Klebsiella species

• Helping in respiratory tract infections affecting the lungs and airways

Administer Odoxil Suspension 30ml to your child as follows:

• Shake the bottle well before each use.

• Use the measuring cup provided to ensure the correct dose.

• You can mix the syrup with milk or food if needed.

• It can be given with or without meals.

• If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking a dose, give the same dose again, but do not double the next one.

• The medicine is sugar-based, so if your child has diabetes, it's important to consult your doctor before giving it.

Odoxil Suspension 30ml is given orally to your child.

Odoxil Suspension 30ml contains cefadroxil (125 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• Inhibits Bacterial Cell Wall Synthesis: Cefadroxil inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell walls by binding to and inactivating penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). These PBPs are found on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall.

• Causes Bacterial Cell Cytolysis: By interfering with these PBPs, cefadroxil disrupts the cross-linkage of peptidoglycan chains that provide strength and rigidity to bacterial cell walls. This leads to a weakening of the cell wall and ultimately causes cytolysis - a process where cells burst due to an imbalance in osmotic pressure.

• Exhibits Bactericidal Activity: The actions mentioned above result in cefadroxil exhibiting bactericidal activity - it kills bacteria rather than simply inhibiting their growth. This makes it effective in managing bacterial infections.

• Store Odoxil Suspension 30ml at room temperature, ideally below 30°C.

• Keep it in a tightly sealed container to protect it from air and moisture.

• Make sure it is kept out of reach of children.

• Do not use the syrup if past its expiry date.

• After reconstitution, use the suspension within 14 days; discard any remaining portion thereafter.

• If your child is on Odoxil Suspension 30ml for urinary tract infections, ensure they drink plenty of fluids to help flush bacteria out of their system.

• For children with respiratory tract infections, discourage them from inhaling second-hand smoke as it can aggravate their condition. Encourage them to remain in clean, smoke-free environments.
