The side effects are infrequent due to an allergy to the constituents of gaviscon; these side effects include
- Nausea
- Flatulence
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
Managing side effects
- Nausea & vomiting: Drink clear liquids or ice-cold liquids. Eat light and bland foods. Avoid fried and sweet food items. Do not mix cold and hot foods.
- Flatulence: Avoid foods which may cause flatulence, eat in smaller portions, chew the food properly, and drink water frequently, peppermint tea will settle the flatulence.
- Diarrroeha: Drink plenty of fluids, eat semisolid foods, foods which are devoid of fibre, and avoid dairy foods.

PREGNANCY
It is recommended that pregnant women take precautions while taking Gaviscon Oral Suspension. Before you consume it, you should consult your physician.
BREASTFEEDING
It is recommended that breastfeeding mothers take precautions when taking the Gaviscon Oral Suspension. Before you consume it, you should consult your physician.
ALCOHOL
Alcohol should be avoided while using Gaviscon Oral Suspension. There are no known interactions between Gaviscon Oral Suspension and alcohol. However, alcohol consumption is related to increased acidity and may worsen existing acidity.
LIVER
It is recommended that people with the liver disease take precautions while using Gaviscon Oral Suspension. There is a possibility that the dosage of the Gaviscon Oral Suspension must be adjusted. Please talk to your doctor; however, it is not recommended for patients with severe liver disorders to take Gaviscon Oral Suspension.
KIDNEY
It is recommended that people with kidney disease take precautions while using Gaviscon Oral Suspension. There is a possibility that the dosage of the Gaviscon Oral Suspension must be adjusted. Please talk to your doctor; however, it is not recommended for patients with severe liver disorders to take Gaviscon Oral Suspension.
USING MACHINES AND DRIVING
If you experience sleepiness after taking Gaviscon Oral Suspension, you should not drive or operate heavy machinery. We recommend that you consult a doctor as soon as possible.
ALLERGY
If you have an allergic reaction (hypersensitivity) to Calcium carbonate, Sodium alginate, Sodium bicarbonate or any of the other components, do not take Gaviscon Oral Suspension. We recommend that you consult a doctor as soon as possible.
USE IN CHILDREN
Gaviscon Oral Suspension is not recommended for children under 6. Your child's doctor may modify the dosage depending on the child's age and weight before taking it to adolescents and children over 6. Consult the child's physician for guidance.
USE IN OLDER PATIENTS
Gaviscon Oral Suspension should be taken with precaution in elderly patients. However, you should avoid overdosing on it. Before you start taking it, consult your doctor.
