Age and Dose Restrictions

• This combination is generally prescribed for adults.

Contraindications

• Diazepam + Imipramine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to either Diazepam or Imipramine. It is also contraindicated in patients with acute narrow-angle glaucoma, severe liver disease, a certain muscle disease (myasthenia gravis), lung/breathing problems (such as COPD and sleep apnoea syndrome), and certain blood disorders (porphyria).

Other Medications to Avoid

• Diazepam + Imipramine can interact with other antidepressants (such as phenelzine and citalopram), antihistamines (such as diphenhydramine and cetirizine), antiseizure medicines (like phenytoin), acid-reducing agents (like cimetidine and omeprazole), antifungal medications (like ketoconazole), and blood thinners (like warfarin and aspirin).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Diazepam + Imipramine may cause extreme drowsiness, confusion, muscle weakness, fainting, or coma. In case of suspected overdose, seek immediate medical assistance.
• In case of a missed dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Never double up to make up for a missed dose.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• Drinking plenty of water may help to reduce the side effect of dry mouth associated with this medication.
• If you experience constipation, increase your intake of fibre and stay well hydrated.
• Try resting and avoiding sudden movements if you experience dizziness.
• A regular sleep pattern may help if you are experiencing insomnia.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Diazepam + Imipramine may cause drowsiness or dizziness, affecting your ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid such activities until you know how the medicine affects you.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Diazepam + Imipramine should be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus or infant. Always consult your doctor before using this medicine while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Caution should be exercised when administering Diazepam + Imipramine in patients with kidney disease, liver disease, heart conditions, glaucoma, urinary retention, or a history of medicine abuse.
• It should also be used with caution in people with a history of seizures, bipolar disorder, or suicidal tendencies.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• Limit caffeine and sugar intake as they can worsen anxiety symptoms.
