Voglibose

ANTIDIABETIC

Uses of Voglibose

  • Voglibose is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus along with diet and exercise to improve post-prandial (after-meal) blood glucose levels.
  • It is used in combination with other antidiabetics to manage type 2 diabetes.
  • It helps in pre-diabetes management to delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.

Side effects of Voglibose

  • Constipation
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Loose stools
  • Heartburn
  • Hypoglycemia

How Voglibose works

  • Voglibose is an oral antihyperglycemic medicine.
  • It is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor. It works by inhibiting the enzyme alpha-glucosidase in the small intestine. This enzyme is responsible for breaking down complex carbohydrates into simple sugars like glucose.
  • By blocking this enzyme, Voglibose slows down the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, leading to a gradual rise in blood sugar levels after meals. This helps in preventing the sharp spikes in blood sugar that typically occur post-meal, which is particularly beneficial for individuals with type 2 diabetes
