Uses of Vasopressin
Vasopressin is used in managing diabetes insipidus, a condition characterised by excessive thirst and urination due to inadequate secretion of this hormone. It belongs to the class of medications known as antidiuretic hormones.
Additionally, it is used in managing gastrointestinal bleeding, particularly from esophageal varices, as well as in the treatment of septic shock refractory to other treatments, and in combination with epinephrine during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to improve outcomes in cardiac arrest.
