Contraindications

• Trospium may interact with anticholinergics (eg., dicyclomine and scopolamine), cardiac glycosides (eg., digoxin), antacids (eg., aluminium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate), and certain antipsychotics (like clozapine and quetiapine).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Trospium may cause symptoms such as tachycardia, palpitations, blurred vision, dry skin, fever, and urinary retention. If you suspect an overdose, contact your doctor immediately.

• If you miss a dose of Trospium, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• For dry mouth, sip water regularly, and maintain good oral hygiene.

• Trospium may cause blurred vision and drowsiness. Therefore, patients should be cautious while driving or operating heavy machinery until they know how this medicine affects them.

• This medicine is recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if completely necessary and recommended by a healthcare professional. Consult a doctor before taking this medicine during these periods.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment should be monitored closely while taking this medicine as it can lead to increased medicine levels and adverse effects.

• Patients with liver disease should also exercise caution when taking Trospium.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• Stay well hydrated to prevent constipation or urinary tract infection associated with OAB.

• Maintain a balanced diet rich in fibres to prevent constipation.

• Limit consumption of caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods which can irritate the bladder and worsen OAB symptoms.

• Regular pelvic floor exercises (Kegels) can help strengthen the muscles of the bladder, improving urinary control.
