Triptorelin

Uses of Triptorelin

  • Triptorelin is primarily used for the management of advanced prostate cancer, central precocious puberty (CPP), endometriosis and uterine fibroids, and hormone-sensitive breast cancer. It belongs to the group of synthetic decapeptide analogues of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH).

Side effects of Triptorelin

  • Hot flashes

  • Headache

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Increased urination

  • Decreased sexual desire or erectile dysfunction

How Triptorelin works

  • Triptorelin is an analogue of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH).

  • It functions by initially stimulating the pituitary gland to release luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which regulate the production of sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen. However, when administered continuously, Triptorelin suppresses the secretion of LH and FSH, resulting in a significant reduction in testosterone and estrogen levels. This is beneficial in slowing down the growth of hormone-sensitive cancers.
