How Tenecteplase works
Tenecteplase belongs to the class of medicines known as thrombolytics.
It works by transforming a substance in the body called plasminogen into another substance called plasmin. Plasmin is the main enzyme that breaks down clots. When Tenecteplase binds to fibrin, a protein involved in blood clotting, it activates the plasminogen present in the clot. This process is known as local fibrinolysis. The activation leads to the breakdown of the clot's fibrin matrix, effectively dissolving the clot and restoring blood flow through the blocked artery.

Tenecteplase is available for use via the intravenous route in the form of a sterile, white-to-off-white lyophilized powder.

This medicine is meant for adults aged 18 and above.
Contraindications
Tenecteplase is contraindicated in patients with known structural cerebral vascular lesions or arteriovenous malformations. It is also contraindicated in patients with active bleeding or bleeding diathesis, excluding menses. Significant head trauma or prior stroke within the past 3 months are also contraindications for the use of Tenecteplase.
Other Medications to Avoid
Tenecteplase may interact with anticoagulants (such as heparin and warfarin) and antiplatelet agents (such as clopidogrel).
Overdose and Missed Dose
An overdose of Tenecteplase may lead to severe bleeding complications, including intracranial, gastrointestinal, retroperitoneal bleeding, and excessive bleeding at the injection site. If you suspect an overdose, contact your doctor immediately.

Patients with a history of stroke or intracranial haemorrhage, active internal bleeding, acute pericarditis or subacute bacterial endocarditis, and hemostatic defects, including those secondary to severe hepatic or renal disease, should also exercise caution when taking Tenecteplase.
