Uses of Teicoplanin
Teicoplanin is primarily used for managing serious gram-positive bacterial infections, especially those resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics. It is a glycopeptide antibiotic.
It is also indicated for treating complicated skin and soft tissue infections (cSSTI), hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia (HAP/VAP), infective endocarditis, bone and joint infections such as osteomyelitis and septic arthritis, intra-abdominal infections, and septicemia.

How Teicoplanin works
Teicoplanin is a glycopeptide antibiotic.
It acts by targeting the cell walls of bacteria. First, it attaches to the building blocks (peptidoglycan precursors) of the bacterial cell wall, stopping them from being incorporated into the wall. Additionally, it forms a complex with some of these building blocks, leading to a halt of the steps involved in the assembly (transglycosylation and transpeptidation) of the bacterial cell wall.
