• Tapentadol can be taken orally (tablet, capsule) and nasally (nasal spray).

Age and Dose Restrictions

• It is intended to be used by adults above 18 years of age.

Contraindications

• It is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Tapentadol. It is also contraindicated in patients with impaired pulmonary function, paralytic ileus, and severe kidney impairment. 

Other Medications To Avoid With This Medicine

• Avoid taking centrally acting medications (clonidine) and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (phenelzine). These medications may alter the safety and effectiveness of Tapentadol.

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Overdose can cause miosis, vomiting, cardiovascular collapse, consciousness disorders up to coma, convulsions and respiratory depression up to respiratory arrest. These symptoms need to be managed as an emergency in a hospital setting. Therefore, strict adherence to the prescribed dose is essential.
• If you miss a dose of Tapentadol, take it as soon as you remember. But, if the next dose is near, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing regime.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

• Refrain from driving or operating machinery after using this medication.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Tapentadol is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Caution In Other Conditions

• Caution is advised in older adults, patients with a history of seizures, serotonin syndrome, debilitated patients, those suffering from conditions accompanied by hypoxia, hypercapnia, or upper airway obstruction and patients having increased intracranial pressure.

• Avoid alcohol consumption while on Tapentadol, as it may increase the risk of side effects.
