Sertraline

Uses of Sertraline

  • Sertraline is used to manage a variety of mental health conditions. It is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor.

  • It is also used to manage conditions such as major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

Side effects of Sertraline

  • Constipation

  • Diarrhoea

  • Dizziness

  • Dry mouth

  • Sleepiness

How Sertraline works

  • Sertraline belongs to a group of medicines called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

  • It works by increasing the levels of a neurotransmitter called serotonin in your brain. Neurotransmitters are natural substances that help nerves in the brain communicate with each other. When the levels of serotonin increase, it helps to improve your mood and reduces feelings of anxiety and obsessive behaviours.
