Contraindications

• Primaquine may interact with tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline, and imipramine), cardioactive medicines (e.g., digoxin, heparin), medicines used for abnormal heart rhythm (e.g., quinidine, hydroquinidine ), and antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, moxifloxacin).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Overdosing on Primaquine may cause stomach cramps, vomiting, yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes, heartburn, heart problems, heartbeat rhythm, bluish skin discolouration, fatigue, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, confusion, light-headedness, dizziness, difficulty sleeping, and pale skin. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical help immediately.
• If you forget to take a dose of Primaquine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

Management of Side Effects

• Most side effects of Primaquine are temporary and should resolve once you stop taking the medicine. If you experience severe side effects or worsening symptoms, consult your doctor immediately.
• For gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea and vomiting, consider taking the medicine with or after meals.
• If you experience dizziness, avoid sudden movements and rise slowly from a sitting or lying position.
