How Prednisolone works

  • Prednisolone belongs to the class of medications called corticosteroids
  • It mimics the cortisol secreted by the adrenal gland, which is responsible for stress and metabolism.
  • Low doses of prednisolone have anti-inflammatory effects, while high doses have an immunosuppressive effect. It binds to the glucocorticoid receptor and mediates the gene expression, which is responsible for decreased vasodilation, increased capillary permeability, reduced leukocyte migration to the inflammation site, promotes anti-inflammatory signals, and inhibits pro-inflammatory signals.
