Leuprorelin

Uses of Leuprorelin

  • The primary use of Leuprorelin is to manage advanced prostate cancer. It belongs to a class of medications known as gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists.

  • It is also used for managing conditions like endometriosis, where it reduces oestrogen levels and shrinks endometrial growth. Additionally, it helps in decreasing the size of uterine fibroids and suppresses the release of sex hormones in cases of central precocious puberty.

Side effects of Leuprorelin

  • Hot flashes

  • Decreased sexual desire

  • Mood changes

  • Headaches

How Leuprorelin works

  • Leuprolide is indicated for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer and as palliative treatment of advanced prostate cancer.

  • Leuprorelin is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist.

  • Initially, it stimulates the pituitary gland to release Luteinizing hormone (LH) and Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). In men, these hormones increase testosterone production, while in women, they heighten oestrogen levels. Both these hormones play crucial roles in the body's reproductive processes.
