Flurbiprofen

Uses of Flurbiprofen

  • Flurbiprofen is used for the relief of pain, tenderness, swelling, and stiffness associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It belongs to the propionic acid derivative class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

  • Additionally, Flurbiprofen manages symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis, a type of arthritis that primarily affects the spine. Also, its ophthalmic solution is used to control eye inflammation before and after eye surgery or laser surgery in patients who cannot use steroids.

Side effects of Flurbiprofen

  • Stomach upset

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Diarrhoea or constipation

  • Headache, dizziness, or drowsiness

  • Eye redness and itching (ophthalmic use)

How Flurbiprofen works

  • Flurbiprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

  • It works by inhibiting the action of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes in the body. These enzymes are responsible for the production of prostaglandins, which are chemical messengers that play a role in inflammation, pain, and fever. By blocking COX enzymes, Flurbiprofen reduces the production of prostaglandins, thereby relieving symptoms of pain and inflammation.
