Contraindications

• This medicine is contraindicated in patients with known allergies to Etoposide. Patients with severe bone marrow suppression or severe liver impairment should not take Etoposide.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Etoposide may interact with CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, and clarithromycin), CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampin, phenytoin) and anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Overdose of Etoposide can lead to severe myelosuppression, mucositis, and gastrointestinal toxicity. If an overdose is suspected, consult your doctor immediately.

• If you miss a dose of Etoposide, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• For nausea and vomiting, it may help to eat smaller meals more often instead of three large meals.

• Sucking on hard candies or chewing gum may help alleviate dry mouth.

• Etoposide can cause dizziness or tiredness. If you experience these, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Etoposide can cause harm to the foetus and is not recommended during pregnancy unless necessary.

• It is also advised to avoid breastfeeding while on this medicine due to potential serious adverse effects in infants.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Caution is advised for patients with liver diseases as Etoposide is metabolised in the liver. Patients with existing bone marrow suppression should also exercise caution while using Etoposide.

• Etoposide can cause constipation, so including fiber-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can help maintain regular bowel movements.

• Wear sunscreen, protective clothing, and avoid prolonged sun exposure to prevent sunburn.
