Erlotinib

Uses of Erlotinib

  • Erlotinib is primarily used to manage certain types of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and pancreatic cancer. It belongs to the kinase inhibitors class of medications.

  • It can be used as a first-line treatment, maintenance therapy, or second- or later-line treatment for NSCLC with specific EGFR mutations. It is also used in combination with gemcitabine for the first-line management of patients with locally advanced, unresectable, or metastatic pancreatic cancer.

  • Diarrhoea

  • Fatigue

  • Loss of appetite

How Erlotinib works

  • Erlotinib is a kinase inhibitor.

  • It functions by blocking the activity of a protein called epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase, often found in excess in some cancer cells. By doing this, it prevents the growth and spread of these cancer cells, managing their progression.
