Uses of Ebastine

  • Ebastine is an antiallergic medication used to manage the symptoms of allergies such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes & itchy skin rashes
  • This medicine is used in adults and children aged 12 years and older to alleviate the symptoms of seasonal rhinitis (hay fever) and perennial allergic rhinitis, including cases with allergic conjunctivitis
  • In adults over the age of 18 years, this medicine is also used to alleviate itching and the development of wheals in urticaria (nettle rash).

How Ebastine works

  • Ebastine is a second-generation histamine receptor antagonist that primarily binds to peripheral H1 receptors. It acts as an antihistaminic that prevents histamine-induced bronchoconstriction, which helps reduce allergy symptoms.

Contraindications

  • This medicine is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Ebastine or patients having or having a history of severe liver disease.

Other Medications To Avoid With This Medicine

  • Avoid taking antibiotics (erythromycin, clarithromycin, josamycin), antifungal medications (ketoconazole, itraconazole), and antituberculous medications (rifampicin). These medications may alter the safety and effectiveness of this medicine.

Overdose and Missed Dose

  • If by accident, you take an overdose of this medicine, contact your doctor in case you experience severe side effects or worsening of any of side effects. Strict adherence to the prescribed dose is essential.
  • If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember, but if the next dose is near, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing regime.
