The primary use of Cilostazol is to manage the symptoms of intermittent claudication, a condition characterised by leg pain and cramping during walking due to insufficient blood flow. Cilostazol belongs to the group of medications known as phosphodiesterase III inhibitors.
By enhancing blood flow to the extremities, it improves overall mobility and quality of life for those suffering from peripheral vascular disease. It also reduces pain, tingling, numbness, and muscle cramps in the legs, enabling patients to walk longer distances without discomfort.

Cilostazol is a phosphodiesterase III inhibitor.
It primarily works by blocking an enzyme called phosphodiesterase III. This action prevents the breakdown of a compound called cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in blood vessels and platelets, which leads to increased levels of cAMP. As a result, it reduces the clumping of platelets (blood cells that help clotting) and causes blood vessels to relax and widen, a process called vasodilation. In addition, Cilostazol inhibits the clumping together of platelets, which helps prevent the formation of harmful blood clots.
