Primarily, Celecoxib is used for managing conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in patients aged two years and above, and ankylosing spondylitis. Belonging to the group of Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Additionally, Celecoxib is also beneficial for short-term management of acute pain and primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps). Furthermore, it has proven efficacy in managing migraines.

How Celecoxib works
Celecoxib is a Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), more specifically, a COX-2 selective inhibitor.
It works by selectively blocking the enzyme known as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). This enzyme plays a key role in causing pain and inflammation in your body. When Celecoxib inhibits COX-2, it reduces the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals that promote inflammation, pain, and fever in the body. By reducing these prostaglandins, Celecoxib helps to decrease inflammation and relieve pain. Importantly, Celecoxib does not significantly inhibit another enzyme called COX-1, which helps maintain the normal lining of your stomach and intestines and supports kidney function. This selective action means that Celecoxib is less likely to cause stomach upset compared to other NSAIDs.
