Dosage Forms Available

• Armodafinil is available for oral administration in the form of tablets.

Age and Dose Restrictions

• Armodafinil can be prescribed to adults and adolescents above 17 years of age.

Contraindications

• Armodafinil is contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to modafinil, armodafinil or any of its inactive ingredients.

• It is also contraindicated in individuals with a history of left ventricular hypertrophy or in those with mitral valve prolapse who have experienced the mitral valve prolapse syndrome.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Armodafinil can interact with strong CYP3A4/5 inhibitors (like ketoconazole and itraconazole), hormonal contraceptives (like ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone) and CYP2C19 substrates (such as omeprazole, diazepam, propranolol and phenytoin).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Armodafinil may cause symptoms such as restlessness, agitation, anxiety, confusion, hallucinations, nausea, diarrhoea, tremors and palpitations. Immediate medical attention should be sought if an overdose is suspected.

• If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Do not double up on doses.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• For headaches, ensure that you remain well hydrated and try to rest and relax.

• If you are experiencing nausea, try eating smaller, more frequent meals instead of three large meals a day.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Armodafinil may reduce your ability to drive or operate machinery safely. Dizziness and blurred vision may occur, do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Armodafinil is not recommended for use during pregnancy unless necessary and only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the foetus. Consult your doctor before using this medicine while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Caution is advised in patients with a history of psychiatric disorders including depression and psychosis.

• Patients with cardiovascular disease should also use Armodafinil with caution as it can cause increases in heart rate and blood pressure.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• It is important to maintain a regular sleep schedule that includes going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, even on weekends.

• Getting regular exposure to natural light, particularly in the morning, can help regulate sleep patterns.
